“One of the finest championships we have in Sweden”

Reigning NXT Gen Cup champion Elias Adestam will debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, one of Sweden’s absolute premier racing championships, at the premiere in Anderstorp next month.

18-year-old Adestam has signed for Mtech Competition, the same team that in 2023 took Skåne’s Ola Nilsson to the title in the prestigious series. The investment is supported by, among others, Bilia / Porsche Center Malmö.

– Finally! We have worked hard during the winter to achieve this, says Elias Adestam. Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia is one of the finest championships we have in Sweden. It definitely won’t be easy. I still haven’t had the opportunity to test drive the car and I’ve heard that it requires quite a special technique. I simply have to do my best, and one thing is for sure: I couldn’t be more excited!

Adestam made history in 2023 when he took home the very first edition of the new electric touring car series NXT Gen Cup. In doing so, the Nacka son became the first driver in the world to win an electrified junior racing championship. At the same time, he was crowned Swedish junior champion in racing.

The next big step in the career now takes place in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, which has official SM status.

– We look forward to working with Elias in his exciting Carrera Cup debut, says Magnus Karlsson, team manager Mtech Competition. It is certainly not an easy task for such a young newcomer to break into the established drivers who have been driving for several years, but Elias has a strong CV and is proven to be fast. He has impressed us in every part over the winter and really wants this. He will be a welcome addition to the entire series.

Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia was founded in 2004 and is Porsche’s official Carrera Cup championship in Scandinavia. It is one of a total of eleven different Carrera Cup championships in Porsche’s global network, with the top of the pyramid being the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – an official support class to Formula 1.

All drivers compete with identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. The cars develop around 510 horsepower and have a top speed of 280 km/h.

– Porsche has a unique structure of international championships and a great global involvement in motorsport, concludes Elias Adestam. Of course, it is very interesting to be part of that package. The debut in Anderstorp will also be my first competition outside the junior classes and in the absolute elite of Swedish racing. It is a clear shift in my career, a great challenge, and a great opportunity.

Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia forms a starting field consisting of some of Sweden’s fastest racing drivers. Among the profiles in the championship, among others, Prince Carl Philip is also noticeable. The premiere at Scandinavian Raceway in Anderstorp runs on May 3-4.

Today’s announcement also marks the launch of a collaboration between Elias Adestam’s charity initiative, Raising Against Cancer, and the Children’s Cancer Foundation. More information and the opportunity to contribute can be found at www.barncancerfonden.se/raising-against-cancer.
