“It’s great to win here at Gelleråsen.”

Elias Adestam drove home his third victory in the NXT Gen Cup when he won with a calculated maneuver on the last lap at this weekend’s competitions at the Gelleråsen Arena in Karlskoga.

Adestam started the weekend in the best possible way by topping Friday’s qualifying, giving him his second pole position of the season in the electric JSM series.

From his starting position at the front of the grid, Adestam initially took command in the first of Saturday’s two races, where, however, he later had to relinquish the lead to Jonathan Engström.

However, Adestam did not allow himself to be stressed, but confidently followed the pace behind the new leader and bided his time.

On the very last lap, Adestam then put in his push. After strategically saving his final push-to-pass – the overtaking aid that temporarily increases power in the cars – Adestam swept back into the lead and on to his third win of the season.

– It’s great to win here at Gelleråsen, says Elias Adestam. It was a good fight with Jonte (Engström), but I had a plan the whole time and it worked. I saved the push-to-pass for the last lap and knew I would have an advantage there. It’s also nice to pick up some bonus points for pole position in qualifying.

The rules for reverse starting order in Race 2, where the top eight from the first race are reversed, meant that Adestam had to start the final heat from grid eight. After a strong run, the Nacka driver took the checkered flag in fourth, only to be subsequently awarded a time-out for an on-track incident. He thus fell to 14th place in the results list.

– I accept the decision, even though I actually think it is a very harsh punishment, says Elias Adestam. It was a sad end to the weekend and to a race that otherwise felt really good. It will also be very costly in the championship, but I am here to fight and I will always continue to do so.

Elias Adestam is in third place in the NXT Gen Cup standings with two races (four races) now remaining in the championship’s inaugural season. Next up is a visit to Scania’s Ring Knutstorp on 31 August – 1 September.
